BMI Reading

BMI – Body Mass Index Calculations – What do your numbers mean?

At Sheer Nutrients, we will work with you on helping you achieve an optimal weight for your body.

The BMI calculator we use at Sheer Nutrients contains two readings:

  1. Total Fat Percentage – top number – The top number is the fat percentage based on your total body mass, your weight and height.    The electrical signal on the BMI calculator goes through water, not fat cells.
  2. BMI – Bottom Number – BMI – Body Mass Index – The bottom number is used to assess how much an individual’s body weight departs from what is normal or desirable for a person of his or her height, even age and sex.

BMI’s are categorized as:

  • Under 18.5—Underweight
  • 18.5–24.9—Normal
  • 25–29.9—Overweight
  • 30 or more—Obese

Is this a reliable indicator? Generally, BMI correlates to body fat. The higher the BMI number, the greater your risk for high blood pressure; cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis and certain cancers. To a certain degree it can be reliable.
